Becoming a Birthworker Course
All you need to know to get started walking with women for their powerful births
Just like you already believe women know how to give birth, I believe you already know how to walk with women – and you don’t have to wait to get started. You can begin your work with women today – and do it with confidence.
"This course was a masterful mix between learning how to be a birthworker as your most authentic self and learning how to start your business, no matter your level of experience. Leisa's extraordinary insight allowed me to uncover my core barriers which lead to some profound realisations about myself."
This course is right for you if:
- You have a passion for birth – you talk about birth to everyone you know, and your social media pages are filled with it. You already know how birth works best but you worry you don’t have enough experience or qualifications to get clients.
- You’d love to attend only or predominantly homebirths, but you are worried how that will work.
- You want to work in integrity and alignment with your own values, but don’t know how that looks or how to get started.
- You feel out of your depth when it comes to the business side of things – selling makes you feel icky, you don’t know how to find the right clients, you’re worried about how to structure your programs or what to charge.
This course will help you understand that because you believe in women, you already have everything you need to become a birthworker right away, so that instead of worrying about being worthy or qualified enough, you can feel confident and excited about getting started.
"Thank you Leisa for helping us question our beliefs, unpack our fears, helping us believe in ourselves and so much more.
This course was worth every penny."
This course was worth every penny."
Over the course of my career, it became clear to me that birthworkers weren’t routinely being taught how to help birthing women make decisions that they could own - and this often resulted in women feeling disappointed, even traumatised, by their birth outcomes. This also left birthworkers confused and unsure of their role and responsibility in women’s births.
I recognised what I needed to do was completely change the way I had conversations with women. I shifted my practice from teaching strategies to navigate the maternity system, to helping women understand the way the system works, and to explore their own fears, beliefs, and conditioning in order to make decisions for themselves: decisions they could own, in responsibility, leaving them in their power. As a birthworker, I also had to do my own personal work, examine my motivations and blocks, so that I, too, could stay in my own responsibility.
I’ve been teaching this revolutionary way of working with birthing women to fellow birthworkers for several years, and now I’ve created this pathway for you as a new birthworker to know it too.
I’ve got your back in this process of becoming a birthworker, and that’s because I’ve made the mistakes, seen what works, what doesn’t and I’m going to break it down and show you how you can start helping women create their wonderful births today, and feel confident stepping into running your business.
I know that you already live and breathe birth. You have a special passion for physiological birth and giving birth back to women and their babies. I know you believe that birth is a powerful and pivotal rite of passage in a woman’s life. And I know you want to serve women – you feel a calling that this is your life’s work.
But right now? You’re feeling completely out of your depth. Maybe you’ve even done doula courses, only to be left feeling more confused or inexperienced. But in the same way that you know women inherently have everything they need to give birth, I know you already have everything YOU need to serve women, right now. And this course will allow you to believe that, too.
"Every week I feel so grateful to be part of this training. It's life-changing, not just for the birth work but also for myself."
What’s in Becoming a Birthworker?
Module 1 - I don’t feel experienced enough – Many new birthworkers worry they don’t have enough experience or the right credentials to get started. In this session you’ll discover that what matters most is what you already know about women and birth, and you’ll understand why inexperience can actually be a great thing.
Module 2 – What if I only want to do homebirths or freebirths? – As more birthworkers understand the industrialised maternity system and how it lets women down, it’s normal to not want to work in it. In this session we’ll cover why that’s perfectly okay, so you can have the confidence and know-how to reach an abundance of the women you really want to work with.
Module 3 – The personal work – Women make choices from conditioned behaviours and beliefs. This is a vital understanding that all birthworkers must have in order to help women make different decisions for their births. In this session you’ll gain the tools to identify unconscious beliefs and recognise their impacts, and you’ll understand why self-worth is at the foundation of everything.
Module 4 – Part 1 – With-woman philosophy – Your with-woman philosophy forms the cornerstone of your birth business. It’s common for birthworkers to attach their value to a client’s birth outcome, but in this module you’ll understand that the birthing woman is responsible for her own birth, and you’ll learn your integral part in creating that safe space for her.
Module 4 – Part 2 – With-woman philosophy – Women frequently have a disconnect between what they want and what they choose in their births. In the continuation of this module, you’ll discover how the gap between a woman’s goals, and the actions she takes, will impact the way she feels about her birth. You will feel confident showing her a simple step-by-step way to create the shifts that are needed to ensure she is birthing in alignment.
Module 5 – The business stuff – When it comes to the day-to-day running of their business most birthworkers don’t even know where to start. In this module I’ll make all that easy for you. We will cover how to create your offerings, feel confident with what to charge, understand your money mindset and blocks, feel at ease with business admin and make showing up on social media easy.
Module 6 – Selling – In order to help women, you will need to sell to them. In this module you’ll find out why selling is just a part of serving women. Learn how to sell your services with ease and in integrity, become unafraid of hearing no, so you can make room for the whole-hearted yes.
Module 7 – Reflective practice – One of the greatest things I have learned that helped me was how to embrace reflection in order to grow. Mistakes will happen, it’s what you do with them, hand in hand with self-compassion, that matters. In this module you will find out why reflective practice is vital, how to do it, and why it’s your biggest tool for expansion and success in your business.
